Step-by-Step — What to Do Right Now
Severe Tooth Pain
Rinse mouth with warm salt water to remove debris. Use a regular OTC pain reliever that is approved for that purpose (unless allergic) but never put on the gum itself. Cold compress on cheek to diminish throbbing during travels to us.
Bleeding
Fold the clean gauze or cloth; cover the wound with it; press against the wound with regular pressure for 10-15 minutes; bite through the layers. If there is no improvement then apply pressure and make to the clinic — do not wait at home.
Facial Swelling

Knocked-Out Tooth
Here, the key factor is TIME — the first 30 minutes will increase the chances of saving the tooth. Hold it just at the crown (not at the root), carefully rinse off under water and gently try to put it back in its socket. Broken or Chipped Tooth
Rinse out your mouth and, if possible, collect all the broken parts. To protect your cheek and tongue until you reach us, cover up sharp edges with dental wax or sugar-free gum (see the broken tooth guide for more details).
What NOT to Do
There are some common home remedies, which do more harm than good. Use aspirin or any painkiller on tissue paper and don’t put it on the gum or directly against the tooth, as this will cause chemical damage and burn the soft tissue of the gum. Avoid heat on swollen area; heat may promote the spread of infection. Never use household glue to re-glue a crown or filling and do not ignore facial swelling, as it will not go away quickly if there are no complications.
